Syracuse football recruiting: 2017 linebacker Keirston Johnson commits to the Orange

Florida inside linebacker Keirston Johnson committed to Syracuse on Saturday afternoon, according to multiple reports.

The Robert E. Lee (Florida) High School senior is ranked with three stars by Scout.com and 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. He chose the Orange over Maryland, Memphis, Buffalo and Coastal Carolina.

The 6-foot, 215-pound Jacksonville native recorded 101 total tackles (15 for loss), made 10 sacks and caused two fumbles in 11 games during his senior season, according to MaxPreps.com. He played both inside and outside linebacker in high school, according to the site.

Johnson is the second linebacker in his class to join the Orange. He joins Canadian linebacker Tyrell Richards. He is SU’s 11th commit overall and the third defensive player. Richards was the last defensive player to commit before Johnson on June 18.

He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds, bench presses 315 pounds and squats 445, according to his National Collegiate Scouting Association profile.
